Biggie Smiles!

Alex is getting so big...and he has a big personality to match! He smiles a lot now and the way he smiles with his entire face (mouth, eyes, nose) really warms my soul. I am convinced that there is no better feeling for a mother than to see her child smile. Here are some of my favorite smile photos from the past couple of weeks and check out the video too.

*ok, this is more of a milk-drunk smile rather than a social smile but it is still darn cute!

First trip to the beach

We went on our first family vacation with Alex to Depoe Bay at the Oregon coast. It was the perfect first vacation as it is only a 2 hr drive away and it is such a low-key beautiful spot where they have perfected the art of doing nothing... and we were happy to do just that...nothing!

We lucked out with beautiful weather so we went on many walks on the beach, did a lot of snuggling as a family, read some good books (Bossypants by Tina Fey = super funny), and just bonded as our new family unit.

My parents joined us on Wednesday and got to have some good quality time with Alex. They are sooo good to him! And we had a chance to celebrate my mom's birthday at this wonderful restaurant in Newport called Local Ocean. If you haven't been there and you are going to be out at the Oregon coast anytime soon, I would highly recommend it.

As always, here are some pictures...

I love this stretch picture. Alex has the best streches EVER! And he has been such a good sleeper giving us 6 hours in a row!

Papa and Nonna sure love their little man...can't you tell!

Melts my heart!

I am still amazed by the strength of a mother's love.

Can you tell David is a bit excited about his new family :)

We bought an Apple Pie at Otis Cafe on the way home from the coast as our lunch. We ate all but one tiny slice.

A change of season...

We have officially experienced a change of seasons. It has quickly moved from summer to fall here in Portland - as you can see from this picture of our beautiful street...

and we have officially left the happy-hour-going, dining out and dancing crowd to join the world of parenthood. It has been different over the past month, that is for sure, but it has been wonderful!

I am amazed at how easy it is to get out of bed at 3am to feed the little goober - all just because I want to make him happy. That most certainly would never have happened just 5 short weeks ago. And I sometimes feel like my heart is going to explode with love when his little face is nestled into my neck during a nap.

Alex is 1 month today and he has made us happier than we could have ever imagined and has brought a beauty to our lives we never knew before. So the happy-hours may have to wait...no biggie!

We went to the pumpkin patch as a family today to celebrate. I am one luckly lady!

And here are some more fun photos of Alex's week:

Michael, Ryder and Leila...OH MY!

We have had a great week of being social with some great family and friends.

Michael came into town to hang out with us and we have had a blast being lazy, reading and watching Coneheads - what a fantastic movie with an exceptional cast!! If you haven't seen it in a while I would recommend bringing it out of the archives!

Katie, Jesse and Ryder even made a road trip down from Washington and Alex got to meet his cousin, Ryder for the first time. Ryder is 2 days older than Alex so it is going to be so fun for them to grow up together. I got "Thing 1" and "Thing 2" outfits for them because I am kind of a nerd that way!

Lastly, my beautiful Goddaughter Leila turned 2 this week. Happy Birthday Leila...we love you and are so glad we could celebrate with you.

Alex is changing every single day and I can't seem to take my eyes off of him. I am trying to enjoy every second and soak up every moment of him in my arms. Here are some fun photos from our week.
